Exploring the Physical and Mental Benefits of Break Dancing for Kids
After more than 15 years as a Breaking Coach, I've witnessed countless young people embracing the captivating world of Breaking. It always brings to mind the reasons I myself became deeply passionate about this art form during my teenage years. As a youngster, I grappled with the challenge of forging connections with others. English being my second language, I encountered communication difficulties. Throughout elementary school, I endured instances of bullying and ridicule due to my language barriers and accent. However, delving into the top 10 benefits of breakdance, I discovered an avenue for self-expression and empowerment that transcended language barriers and fostered a sense of belonging.
Over time, I slowly began to learn and understand more. Still, being able to express myself was not the same at all from where I come from. You see, I grew up on a small Ranch in Central, Rural Mexico. Dirt roads, horses, farmers, and the desert. Not much to do there other than hang out with my elementary school friends. We had so much freedom to roam the desert and be outside all day. Still to this day, one of my favorite times of my life.
Going from living in the rancho to coming to the United States and the difference was a bit much for me. Here we had so many rules! Whereas over there my mom would let us be out all day long and didn't bother to even check on us. In the rancho, there were about 200 people that lived there and all grew up together so not much to worry about. Here in the USA, we had to check in at school, check out of school, take a bus to school, be home at a certain time, can't do this, can't do that. Don't climb that tree, don't jump off things. Just a lot of differences from where I come from.
You may be wondering, why am I sharing this story with you. See, it wasn't until I saw Breaking (Break Dancing) in the United States that I began to find myself. All of the difficulties I had communicating with others in many ways disappeared. When I found Breaking, I was able to express myself and a lot of people became my friends because I was the best Break Dancer in my school. In other words, no one paid much attention to me until they saw me dancing.
One of the biggest benefits of Breaking for young children based on my personal and professional experience is exactly what happened to me. It gives you a sense of confidence and self-belief to step out of your comfort zone. Before Breaking, I was very shy, but once I started dancing, my confidence increased and I could approach people and make friends. This helped me in school.
Over the years, I have seen many kids first attend one of our programs here at ALL10 Breaking and feel a little bit nervous, but after a few classes, and definitely, after a few seasons of Breaking you begin to see their confidence increase and they begin to be able to express themselves as an artist and make new Breaking friends. Many of our students are friends not only at the academies but outside of our facilities. They have playdates and practice Breaking together.

You see, there aren't many sports where you can dance to music, create your moves, create your style and character, be super cool to show, unique, fashion the list goes on and on and on.
